I am aware of these self-driving cars, though they may not be science fiction, are not allow to operate without a human driver and with less proficiency than one. The driver nor the soldier is going to be replaced anytime soon. On a battlefield there might not be nice GPS maps to follow or the road might be blocked. All this has to be overcome while working on a targeting system. If we don’t let them drive will the army let them shoot? Let us not forget that a drown is not a robot.
