I agree that taking AI too far is a problem but I also see the benefits of it. I have been and I am now taking an entry level programming class in college and I really clicked with it. As I was going through my assignments, I started wanting to take things a step further. I’m a college student and don’t have the money to pay for an online or outside course, so I spoke with my professor(who allows AI use in normal class) and he suggested that I go to ChatGPT and ask for it to help improve my code. I was hesitant at first because I was thinking that it would hinder me. I thought it would just put me on autopilot to just ask it for what I want and I would settle for what it gave me. I actually found the opposite was true. As it was showing me new things to put in my code, I was able to ask what it was doing and why it was doing that. I am now about 2 classes ahead of the one I am in now and I am having a great time! I’m not sharing this to showboat but to share my positive experience with AI. I have also been relying on my teacher and friend who is a software engineer major along side ChatGPT and with all of that combined has provided a beneficial time for me as a student. As I said in the beginning, I do understand that AI can be bad if used in the wrong way. I 100% do not agree with the LLM’s scraping art, videos, music, etc. There is no doubt that it is unethical. However, we can’t throw the baby out with the dirty bath water. If used in the right way, AI can enhance learning for those who want to, as Brandon said it is a great search tool, and it has been used in countless fields to make predictions which lead scientists or field experts in the right direction. I will now step off my soapbox, thank you if you’ve read my brain spill this far. This is really the first time I’ve put together all of my thoughts on AI and I would love to have a conversation!
