Yudkowsky’s big contribution to humanity has been writing Harry Potter fanfiction and several volumes of what might charitably be called speculative science fiction. He has no formal education or background in computer science. He hypes up this hypothetical AI eschaton to scare SV types to donate to his “research” institution dedicated to spinning up more chicken little theories based on nothing. His whole apocalyptic vision is just a reshuffling of evangelical anxiety about the end of the world.
