The real challenge includes that science has been wielded by political zealots from medical or environmental or agro bents in directions that are authoritarian or profit-centric or benefiting only elites or with aims that literally align with the dystopian. AI is in the latter camp in way too many ways. So, being willing to listen to such experts—scientists who are well known now not to be objective, not only working for human good—is a challenge even for authorities, since the work is providing what benefits them as elites. So, it's along many axes a self-fulfilling situation.
