AI takes the artist out of the equation. AI image generation (it's not art) prioritises product over process because production of art, in our culture, isn't deemed "productive" unless it can be sold as product. Producing art for your self is seen as wasted effort because it doesn't contribute to the capitalist machine. Producing art as product is time consuming and inefficient for the machine so why not automate it? If nobody is making money off of you then you are valueless. AI images provide instant gratification so that we can return to being productive workers, and it allows companies to pump out product for us to consume efficiently. It's fundamentally abhorrent.
Machines were meant to reduce the need for labour to give people more time to pursue the things that make them happy, like painting, writing, singing, spending time with people. Now we use machines to do those things to free us up to work.
