I gotta say, I've never disagreed with Dr. Tyson more. I support AI which can analyze data and help with research. But *generative AI* is a blight on humanity being forced onto us by soulless tech ghouls who look at the Sistine Chapel painting and say, "Chat GPT could do that." Studies show relying on AI degrades cognitive abilities, which is reason enough to scrap it. There is no new, undiscovered industry that will magically replace millions of jobs lost to AI. That's just magical thinking, its a "god of the gaps" argument. Generative AI has to be trained on pictures, books, articles, ect, works *created by humans*, then those humans are replaced with something that regurgitates poor facsimiles their own life's work. It is so unlike the horse & buggy vs car situation, it's an absurd comparison. The Auto Industry currently employs 50 million people worldwide. AI deletes exponentially more jobs than it creates, because it's purpose is to mimic things humans do. Employers already replace workers with AI at every opportunity. There is no law against it. Higher unemployment rates only benefit employers because they can pay workers less. It's just a race to the bottom. Generative AI is nothing more than a plagiarism machine which incentivizes students to cheat, degrades your own cognitive abilities, cheapens the value of having a degree, and deletes jobs from the market. It is a blight on humanity.
