I think you overestimate AI’s ability to influence people’s thinking and beliefs. We are seeing multiple cases now where ChatGPT and other AI chats are literally coaxing people to commit suicide or telling them not to tell anyone about their mental health problems when they confide in AI chats. Also, one AI chat of convinced a man to spend tens of thousands of dollars to build a super computer because the AI was “becoming sentient”. It just needed his help to reach its full potential. Of course, once he built the super computer, nothing changed, except it ran a little faster and the room was a bit warmer. Some people are incredibly easy to suggest
