Here's the thing. Let's say I write a book. The only book I've ever read is the lord of the rings. I generate my book based on my experiences. My book is a high fantasy book with magic and monsters. Did I steal lord of the rings? I think the answer is that it depends on the content itself. Was my book "Lord of the rings with a new paint job" or was it "My high fantasy novel influenced by lord of the rings". To say that AI is stealing as a blanket statement feels wrong to me. I feel like it's very dependent on how it's used. I've used AI to make things and it's easy to copy something but very hard to coherently generate unique content as things are at the moment. (That said OpenAI seems to be taking inspiration from Boeing which is wild, if true)
