Do we actually need autonomous cars, a few thoughts, how many drivers do Uber employ, the population is increasing, what are drivers currently driving vehicles going to do when they are not needed, in sci-fi films “what we are told is the future” there are hardly any people in shots no crowds hardly any cars, it is fiction after all. My car, a Volvo like Uber uses, brakes by itself sometimes when I go past a car that is parked in a lay-by, I just have to push the accelerator to overcome it, the car behind me could easily hit the back of me if I didn’t recognise this problem, the car behind would think why has he braked for no reason. The law ( proposed I guess ) says you have to pay attention and be prepared to take over control of the autonomous car, in reality, if you are meant to be paying attention at all times, why not just drive your car, but we all fear people will be catching up on the latest episode of Transport Evolved or reading a book instead of watching the road, passengers never see what the driver see’s
