I agree that it's dumb to simply remove the Lidar. Tesla should have kept it and at least 1) let the camera detect/identify objects and 2) use lidar on the same object to determine the distance to it as that is what it's best at. I have a Kia and from my understanding it mainly uses lidar which isn't affected by light conditions, and it works perfectly the times I tried following a motorbike, ofc I was paying attention all the time as well. Sometimes (very rarely) it phantom breaks which could be dangerous but better than running over someone. In Swedish we don't say auto-pilot other then for aircraft but we say "speed keeper with lane keeping assist [and automatic overtaking]). Even Tesla say you should be paying attention and _not_ just let the car drive itself without watching, but I agree that the term "autopilot" should be banned until it's much more safe than today.
