I think the counter argument of how a forgery and and AI are very similar practices kinda misses the point. Take 10 artists and get them to draw the same subject and you'll get 10 very different results. Ask any of them to emulate each other and now it doesn't become just an exercise in observation but also in emulation and empathy. Doing that well is a skill in it's own right, it doesn't really set a precedent for allowing a program to do it but it'll be interesting to see where things go from here.
AI image generation is here to stay and it's a good tool within the art pipeline, but it's not going to replace the entire pipeline just yet. Not unless you want wonky hands.
