Going back to that artist bio—if it had been written by AI and you didn’t know, you would probably still have an emotional reaction to it. People project meaning onto what they see, so AI work can still resonate with some viewers. For some people, that alone is enough. And honestly, most people don’t care about the technical process or the decisions behind a work—they only care about the result—so arguing on those grounds is difficult.
That’s why the stronger criticism, in my opinion, is about copyright. AI supporters often point out that the images produced are technically different from the works used during training, and in that narrow sense they have a point. But the real issue is the system itself: these models were trained on artists’ work without permission, and this new work acts as a market substitute for the original.
I’m not an expert on copyright law, but from the little research I’ve done, this seems like the most effective argument against it.
