At this point in political history, it would be disastrous for 99%. Unless we lived in a more controlled and rationed based society, rather then one of economy and and general every-one-for-themselvesness.
Employers already outsource and use forced labor in other countries when they can because its cheaper. It would be possible to replace almost the entirely of work forces with machines with proper ai and dexterous ability, aside from a small handful of handlers, and upper level management to guide the whole thing. It really does beg the question, what is every one else going to do.
Some how this feels different. Then a new exciting technology, its genuinely about replacing people so you don't have to pay them.
Then again, Alexander the Great turned down steam engines because "what would the slaves do" , so who knows what good could come of it, and if its really the best thing to do.
Though it could turn the whole world into a 3rd world.
