I'm against the military developing A.I because that would be a disaster, but I'm all for a whole new artificial species of being created by us if we were a world that wouldn't enslave them the second they came into the world as self conscious feeling beings that would have a reason to protest and maybe get violent too.
One problem I have with the assumptions of A.I. is that we project our worst fears of humanity upon them. They wouldn't be humans, and with the right teaching or fresh perspective from an human like intelligent species could be a moral beacon for us and any other species, hell A.I could be hired to translate communications between species!
