If they're capable of actual thought, then yes, I think they do deserve rights. But only on the basis, that to coexist would benefit both machine and man. Subjecting things to slavery creates resentment, so, if they do have emotions, or the ability to be self aware of the situation they've been put in
For example, subjecting the robot to mine, but it knows it's mining because it's being forced too, whats to stop the robot from trying to reprogram itself. If that's the case, to stop it reprogramming itself, you'd have to inflict pain in order for the robot to keep doing the task at hand, and suffer whilst doing it
If they can feel, and absorb information, and the objective goal is to strive for coexistence, then they could highly benefit human kind, whilst we help them
If we deny and subject robots to slavery, we'll wish we never invented any robots to begin with, they deserve rights, that justify and signify their free will. Just like any sentient being.
