Saw a fascinating [YouTube video](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rjxAYdUe8uU&t=932s&pp=ygUTVGluZGVyIHJvbWFuY2Ugc2NhbQ%3D%3D) about romance scammers on Tinder.
OP's buddy mentions that they keep matching with profiles that all conform to a weirdly similar pattern: attractive Caucasian male in his late 30s to early 40s, looking for a long term relationship, sporting a profile that seems very authentic, Verified badge, and the last photo on their profile is a piece of art that's been edited to incorporate the face of an Asian person. The art was always different, sometimes a painting, sometimes a sculpture, sometimes an oddly cropped billboard.
Tinder has the option to take a short video of your face, which their algorithm will then compare to your profile pictures and grant your profile a Verified badge if the video and one of the pictures match.
What OP determined was that these profiles were being operated by romance scammers in East Asia, who'd quickly try to move the conversation to WhatsApp and start talking about crypto. The photos were real, but not made by the person operating the profile; he was able to reverse image search the real Facebook and Instagram accounts they'd been taken from. That last photo was the scammer's real face and where the Verified badge was coming from (you only need 1 picture to match to get the badge), disguised in different pieces of art to make the pattern harder to spot. If the person messaging them mentioned that photo, they'd change the subject, and if they kept asking about it, they'd know that this one isn't a mark and stop messaging/block them.
