Only in parts of the AI safety and wider community, I'd say. Plenty of people view the current developments as simply part of what is within the predicted range of pathways that lead to the dramatic future event, and nothing is being missed in that regards. It's just hard to convince people of it.
That said, the issue needs as many angles of attack, and as much concern as people can possibly throw at it, just like AGW does, given even our best efforts don't look like they're enough.
