Much, much different set of problems there. Ti get geothermal energy they are trying to drill 12km straight down, maybe 300cm diameter hole. At some point it gets too hot for conventional drilling equipment. For train tunnels you need to go 5-10M diameter, perfectly horizontal. The technology exists and it’s great, just really expensive and only makes sense for going under mountain ranges etc (look up the gotthard tunnel in Switzerland).
