Tech jobs started evaporating when free money aka ZIRP aka zero interest rate policy went away in 2022.

I'll say it again: AI is just an excuse that companies use for laying off tech people that were only hired when money was free.
The layoff trend has slowed (and mostly flattened in Canada), but we'll continue to see them for a while.
