>Now companies like OpenAI are pivoting to selling ads and porn
I wouldn't call it a pivot (yet), but who else did it apart from OpenAI?
>AI, the technology, will still be with us, even if many of today's AI companies won't be. Even without AGI, it still has the potential to be transformative and economically disruptive. \[...\]
>The AI bubble crashing would mean a recession. Recessions mean companies cut workforce numbers. Ironically, this time, they will be able to replace many of those people who were let go with AI. So the crash that AI causes will also speed its adoption.
This is a good point, though I'm not sure about speeding, but whether there is a crash or not, there will be a job crisis. Also, maybe it's a financial bubble, but much like with the internet, because it is a transformative technology, it will completely change the world. It's just that **if** there is a financial bubble, that means that the market misprices the timing.
However, it seems that most people who say "it's a bubble" mean that it's a fad. People thought the same about the internet too, but that was harder to believe and understand IMO. In a way that was a more surprising, less predictable change than AI is, since the introduction of (a good enough) AI first simply means replacing humans and providing better and cheaper services. While with the internet and digitalization complete new industries were born. (This can happen with AI too, though I'm pretty sure it will wreck the economy at least at first. We just have no idea how to handle that unprecedented situation.)
