At this point who knows. I mean, AI and LLM have potential the problem is that people in management tend to see things differently that people who are doing the work and they think they can replace full departments and we’re not really at that level.
I work for a big company and even getting the full premium licenses of the AI tool is a thing because of just how much it costs. Then the training, prompting is relatively easy but building LLM or automate tasks, not so much and not everyone can do it yet or at least not without taking resources from other projects. And last but not least, ethics and governance. That is the biggest hurdle and opportunity area.
Our AI people are now swamped because they have so many people trying to develop something with AI they don’t have time to look at each project and see the governance aspect of it, security implications and if of course if it’s even worth it.
I think a lot of the new jobs that will emerge will go into that direction, maintenance, governance, security and ethics. Our tech management said something that I agree with: it’s not necessarily that you will be replaced by AI but rather you may get replaced by someone that knows how to use it. Upskilling is the way to go if you don’t want to be left behind.
And of course, things related to human creativity and reasoning will still be needed, however it’s to see the value society will place into it since now AI according to some can also “generate art” but they miss the fact that for that to happen, creativity and art still need to come from the human race as it’s heavily linked with emotions and experience which AI doesn’t have.
In a way it reminds me when everyone was going bonkers for NFTs like 6 or 8 years ago and now no one cares.
