I feel you could drop "in tech" from that. There's a rush of articles about how great an idea investing in Palantir is, for example.
So part of the reason the social contract is breaking down is there's a massive drive for "Everyone for themselves", and... well it's not a contract if only one side is upholding it.
Speaking personally, I try to work on projects I think are doing something positive, as much as I can, but I also have bills to pay and a definite awareness that they're trying hard to fire everyone not working on AI...
