Precisely! Shareholders and the Board of Directors are 100% the problem here and in every other corporation. If they wanted more controls in place, if they didn’t put profit over society, then they would be telling their CEO to slow down. They are completely complicit in enabling our future societal collapse… And I don’t mean some terminator version of the future, but one where most companies choose “good enough“ AI over human employment. Equally complicit or all of the programmers working at Google, OpenAI, etc. I know some personally, and they recognize that it may be the last job they have, but at least they are being compensated well that will take care of them in the future, despite what it means for everyone around them. It’s an arms race where no one is stopping to wonder whether they should with an administration that shows no interest in curtailing the potential destruction it could have.
