you've presented a false dilemma; these are the only 2 answers. As many have commented already, AI is very good at pattern recognition and then following rules to make "decisions"; this is pretty much how many jobs are structured anyway. Call center support staff have decision trees etc. That human's have consciousness and AI does not really doens't factor into most of the jobs that are at risk of displacement.
