OP: you describe people who think AI as conscious as “outright delusional”. I was going to rebut your arguments you made for the position that AI is definitely not conscious, but the closer I looked, I realized there aren’t anyway.  The post begins and ends “AI is absolutely NOT conscious, because… it just isn’t, ok!?” If you’re interested I encourage you to look up some philosophy of mind. It turns out things like “consciousness” “awareness” “qualia” can be slippery concepts, but one thing that we can firmly say is that “consciousness” in principle cannot be seen or measured by anyone except its actual subject, and the only evidence we have for its existence at all is the subject’s testimony. We also don’t know how and why chemical and electrical reactions in brains seem to generate consciousness- again, because we can observe the chemical electrical reductions, but we can’t observe the consciousness- we can only trust whoever’s brain it is to tell us “I’m conscious”. My point is that this a philosophically complex issue that involves some problems which no one has yet solved, and blithely saying “anyone who thinks AI is conscious is outright delusional!” while being unable to give a reasoned explanation as to why it’s definitely not conscious, is rather silly.
