It's not over-hyped. If you are not using it you are falling behind. The real critic is that is not super useful in mature/production projects, where the next move is in your head and needs to do step-by-step. I advice you to install cursor and use claude 3.7 and Gemini 2.5 and see what is all about. Those examples you mention are not the best ones.
