My first hearing of AI was in a 1968 episode of Star Trek called The Ultimate Computer. The M-5 unit was to do away with the captain and crew of the Enterprise, as they would be unnecessary, and it all went terribly wrong when M-5 didn't want to be shut down. That was 56 years ago, so I'm not understanding how Hinton couldn't have thought of it sooner.
