True. Free will is a useful fiction, a central narrative that we constantly tell ourselves. In reality consciousness is continuous, not binary. To paraphrase Hofstadter, a mosquito has a soul, it's just a very tiny one. The LLMs of today are mosquitos, but some day they could be even more "conscious" than we are. People don't understand this but they sense it I think.
