Today's "AI" will require hardware to "self-replicate" on, and someone must pay for that hardware. I suppose if it runs on, say, AWS, it can use the API to self-provision its own servers, virtual networks, and the like. AWS is not cheap. You will go bankrupt fast. We should not fear AI, but the likes of Altman using the government to corner the market and squish innovation from us little guys. While Chatgpt appears very impressive, it suffers from Scalabity issues all graidient-descent approaches do.
