Redundancies are good in some cases, especially things that have to do with safety, since it increases the likelihood that, if one thing fails, the system as a whole will continue to function as expected. Not saying one way or another whether this particular team was needed, but I could see the need in general for redundancies with something as potentially powerful/harmful as AI (though at the same time I remain skeptical regarding Big Tech's idea of what constitutes "ethical" usage of AI given their track record so far).
