How long would it have taken El Salvador to independently develop a COVID vaccine? How long will it be until the US exports vaccine doses to most of Latin America? My speculation is that in the next 6 months most of Latin America will receive vaccine doses developed by American companies. That's a massive advantage to poor countries that they can coat-tail ride on the billions/trillions put into vaccine development at only the cost of 6 months in response time. There is no way poor countries could do this faster on their own, and climate response will be similar. The poor countries will be able to rely on the trillions of dollars of scientific research the West has poured into energy research with much lower cost burdens.
