This really depends on how it's contracted and what facial recognition is being used for. Different government entities have different uses, most of which are for access control to restricted areas. Other areas cover things like detecting missing persons/human trafficking, customs for international travel and yes unfortunately surveillance. Imo surveillance is not cool but facial recognition is such a blanket term that's been vilified for being misused. Banning the technology is silly since it does have valid moral uses. We need legalisation that addresses the issues with the technology like tech leaders (IBM, Amazon, etc) have been asking for years about.
