A lot of people unfortunately do not want progress. They want regression, "back to the good old days" when our country was a monoculture and those "others" were just something you read about every now and then in your newspaper. They see progress as an erosion of their lifestyle and culture. Globalism, for example, has vastly improved the world's economic potential and living standards in every modern country but so many people see it in a political context rather than the next step to securing our survival as a species and I can't fathom why. Perhaps they just don't understand the gravity of tiny intelligence in an infinite universe. I would really rather not come into existence to a species with such potential for greatness, only to be pulled unwillingly into extinction because of rampant idiocy.
