Educate themselves (and then others) on the underlying "economic" system that causes this, a system based on unnecessary consumption, unnecessary cyclical consumption, on competition, a system that needs intrinsic and planned obsolescence being included into products' design, because otherwise the dogma based indicators of "economic" growth it uses, are completely decoupled from the physical reality, from ecological sustainability and human needs.
