Reminds me when I graduated college 20 years working in California. My first boss was a engineer who worked in the oil industry. Nice boss and a smart guy but the Texas oil industry was declining in the late 80s and he had to move to California to get a job but couldn't sell his house for 8+ years since it was "underwater" in market value. I left there after a year so don't know if he ever sold it for break even.
