I'd expect that Terminator-type futures would be unlikely. Still, you don't need a robot capable of fully emulating human behaviour to be pretty bad news to humankind. Your autonomous weaponry just needs to be advanced enough to be a problem, and such levels of technology are already well within our current realm of possibilities, or will soon be.
